Valerie is a multi-disciplinary spatial designer working across commercial and public spaces, identity and information. Projects include a design proposal for a private club in London, a 3D map of LCC for students, a speculative advertising campaign, Selfridges interactive pop up space and store design for the French retailer Colette and a case study and animated film of the Medicine Now exhibition at the Wellcome Collection in Euston, London.
Valerie joined LCC in 2003 as a lecturer in digital drawing and developed an e-learning site for Vectorworks as part of a pedagogic research project. She is Course Leader of the FdA Graphic and Spatial Communication, with the opportunity to create a unique inter-disciplinary degree course that integrates 2D graphics, visual communication and spatial design. The course has since received 2 awards from the D&AD students competition in the environmental design category. She is also a Senior Lecturer on the BA (Hons) Interior Design and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
As an emerging researcher, Valerie is especially interested in people’s perceptions of their surroundings and the atmospheric conditions and sensory properties of our environment. She is presenting a paper on re-imaging the environment at the EVA (Electronic Visualisation and the Arts) in August and currently working on a thesis project looking at remapping perceptions and behaviour across an urban interior in London.
